Kathryn Wood, LGPC, P-RDT
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland and a Provisional Registered Drama Therapist, which means I am always looking for creative, interesting ways to help people discover and lean into the things that mean the most to them.
Getting to know the stories that play out in our lives - and how to switch them up - is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves.
I want working with me to be engaging, creatively stimulating, and interesting for you. Difficulties and challenges are part of life - but they shouldn’t keep us from doing the things that are most important to us.
I help people who long to create meaning and connection in their lives, but worry they don’t know how, or would like to do it a little better.
I work with them to find what brings joy and meaning to them and how to embody that in the world. We’ll talk, but we’ll also use creative arts techniques (even if you believe you are not “creative!”) to help you explore what may be old problems in new ways.
A little more about me:
I work with adults and emerging adults and have a special interest in working with folks undergoing all kinds of life transitions or changes. I am a kink/poly-affirming practitioner and work with clients all along the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum.
People come to see me for anxiety, depression, trouble adjusting to new life circumstances, or to have a space to explore some of the big questions around meaning, spirituality, and how to have a vital, connected life.
I am currently a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland and a Provisional Registered Drama Therapist with the North American Drama Therapy Association. I hold a Masters in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
I am only able to provide counseling to Maryland residents.
A little bit about Drama Therapy
Drama Therapy uses techniques drawn from theatre, storytelling, performance, and writing to help you view your dilemmas in new ways. You don’t have to be an actor or performer to do drama therapy, you just have to bring a sense of curiosity and a willingness to experiment and play.
A little bit about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
How would you show up in the world if you were consciously moving toward the best image of yourself in spite of all the stuff that seems to get in the way?
Don’t let the acronym (ACT) fool you - I didn’t pick ACT as an orientation because it seems to go so well with Drama Therapy (although it does). At its heart, ACT posits that although life is full of hardship, we can better manage our hardships through developing mindful awareness of our experiences and emotions and moving toward our chosen values every day of our lives.
